Since centuries ago, animals have become the object of human veneration. In many ancient cultures scatered in different parts of the world, some of the animals regarded as scared beings and therefore adored. In india, a nation with a Hindhu majority population thats still upholds the tradition of animism, animal worship tradition preserved untill now. Snakes, elephants, monkeys, buffalo and a fewa axamples of animals who adored and considered sacred by the Indians. In some areas of India even deleberately erected several temples dedicated to certain sacred animals. One of quite popular to date is Karni Mata Temple, which is located in the Thar desert, precisely in Bikaner district. The temple has very beautiful architecture, with intricate and ornate marble panels carved silver. According to Atlas Obscura, this temple is home to approximately 20,000 pet rat that was believed to be sacred. Rats at Karni Mata known as Kabbas which means "little boy". They routinely fed grains , milk and oil in a large metal bowl. The rats are kept and fed by descendants and family members Depavats locals who routinely perform worship at Karni Mata Temple. Most of their volunteer to treats the rats and clean building of the temple every day.







The temple is believed to have existed since the year 1400s according to the legend, when the Karni Mata is believed to be dripping goddess Durga for help to the god of death so that the soul of the child Yoma for a storyteller who has died can be born again. Because Yoma reject grant request. Karni Mata then promise that all men storyteller from Charan caste members ( the clan storyteller whose son died) after death will be reincarnated as a rat at Karni Mata Durga Temple. When the rats died they would be born again as a family member Depavats who are in the line of Karni Mata.

The temple is not a rare visitor to tkae home the rest of the milk and the food the rats now. Because the believe that the rats food waste was a blessing and goog luck. Local presidents believe that the welfare of the rats can not forgets this and if there is a rat was killed or died because of neglected it should be replaced by rats made silver or gold. They even beleive in the existence of the rats can protect the entire village of Karni Mata, for this country successfully survived the bomb attact in 1961.

Visitors who come to the temple also the temple also have to keep their feet move so do not step on the animals. If visitors tread and caused the mice died, has slain is to compensate with the gold weighing the mice died.
